We Are Sponsoring the Performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in Paris.
On 5th and 6th December 2015 cantatas 1, 2 and 4 of the Christmas Oratorio will be performed in Paris at the church of the German Protestant Parish (Deutsche Evangelische Christuskirche). The soloists are from Germany – including our Foundation’s prizewinner Sara Magenta Schneyer, who will be singing the soprano part.
This oratorio, one of Bach’s best-known works, was also performed last year during Advent at the Christuskirche in Paris. The cantatas of the Christmas Oratorio are widely performed every Christmas season in Germany but are among the more rarely played works in France. This extraordinary concert event was very well received by the audience in 2014: the church was packed to the last pew, and many would-be attendees were turned away with the promise that the concert would be held again in 2015. To accommodate the tremendous interest, two performances will be held this year.
The concert series was initiated by the Cultural Office of the German Embassy in Paris. The first concert took place last year in the context of a joint German-French project involving the organisation Pro Musica of the Deutsche Evangelische Christuskirche led by the organist Helga Schauerte and the chamber choir Les Temperamens Variations under the artistic direction of Thibault Lam Quang. The project will continue this year.
We would like to wish our prizewinner, along with all other performers and attendees, an enjoyable concert!
