We are pleased to announce our new and most ambitious project to date: starting in the autumn of 2015, our Foundation would like to support the publication of the remaining Volumes III and IV of the work Bach-Kommentar,
a theological-musicological interpretation of the sacred vocal works of Johann Sebastian Bach, by Martin Petzoldt.
Volume I: The sacred cantatas for the 1st to 27th Sundays after Trinity (published in 2005) and Volume II: The sacred cantatas for the 1st Sunday in Advent to Trinity (published in 2007) of the work Bach-Kommentar were published by Bärenreiter (Kassel-Basel-London-New York) as part of a series of publications by the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart. They have since become standard reference works in the field of theological Bach research. Volume I is already sold out. Martin Petzoldt continued working on the next two volumes until his death. The manuscripts for both works are complete. As the author requested, the publisher of the first two volumes, Dr. Norbert Bolin, will also publish the additional volumes on behalf of the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart. Volume III: Passions, festive cantatas and funeral cantatas will be published in the spring of 2016, and Volume IV: Masses, Magnificat, motets and index (for all volumes), in the spring of 2017.
A total of approx. €100,000 will be required for the publication of both volumes.
The completion of the main work published by our deceased Chairman Martin Petzoldt is a matter close to our hearts. Please help us achieve this goal!
